CBSE results: AP stands Number 3. Andhra Pradesh stood at number two in all India standings in terms of number of students passed in CBSE Class X examinations.
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh stood at number two in all India standings in terms of number of students passed in CBSE Class X examinations. While Pondicherry remained at top with 100 per cent results, Kerala followed with 99.96 per cent and Andhra Pradesh along with Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka followed it with an impressive show of 99.89 percentage.
The results of all regions were declared on Tuesday. From Chennai region, a total of 1,23,279 students had appeared in the CBSE exams held in March, 1,22,912 students passed, according to DT Sudharsana Rao, regional officer, CBSE, said. Though Pondicherry remained at the top, the total number of students appeared from there were just 964. The overall pass percentage of the students of Class X this year has reached 98.87 per cent, last year it had come to 98.76 per cent. The girls have scored 99.06 per cent and left the boys behind who scored 98.74 per cent. 14001 candidates i.e. 1.06 per cent students could not clear the exam. And thus, are categorised under the 'Improvement' slot. This percentage is higher than that of 2013, as last year 1.02 per cent candidates had failed.
These candidates are eligible to appear for the 'Improvement of Performance' attempt that would be conducted in July, both by the Board and by the School. Based on the main examination which was held in March, the candidates can apply for the same.
The candidates are required to apply for verification of marks in such a manner that their applications reach the respective regional offices within 21 days of the declaration of result i.e. by June 11. The application forms can be downloaded from the official website or can be collected from the concerned regional offices.
The CBSE made key changes in the pattern of its examinations to reduce stress on students. The Class X final marks secured by a student will no longer be the exact same marks he or she received on the respective final examination; the combined scores of the entire year assessment will be the final marks under CCE. The scheme of Continuous and Comprehensive Evolution (CCE) was introduced from 2009-2010 and has divided the assessment of students' performance into a year-long format. This format is now being adopted in Andhra Pradesh and will be implemented from 2014-15 “The academic year will be divided into Formative Assessment (FA) and Summative Assessment (SA). Only SA would be based on exam marks, with SA1 having been completed under first term, and the final upcoming examinations, board or internal would be assessed as SA2. Final results for Class X would be based 60 per cent on summative assessment (SA1 and SA2) and 40 per cent on formative assessment’ a release said. However, for students interested in changing schools, only Summative Assessment marks will be considered, it added.
