'Khakee' pair Karthi and Rakul Preet collaborated again for another movie titled as 'Dev'. Touted to be a romantic action adventure movie, Rajath Ravishankar helmed this project. The movie has been making a decent release buzz and the trailer of the film also received a positive response from the audience. Also, it has been a long time since Rakul Preet appeared on the Telugu silver screens as a heroine. The movie has finally hit the screens in both Telugu and Tamil languages on the occasion of Valentine's Day on February 14th, 2019. Here is the review of the film.
Story:
Dev (Karthi) who lives in Ukraine is a passionate photographer and an adventure seeker. He meets Meghana (Rakul Preet) in India and his friends wants him to hook up with Meghana. But, Dev learns that Meghna has no time for romance. But, Dev decides to create magic with Meghana and take the relationship forward. How did Dev do that? Did he achieve success? What happened in the end? forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
Karthi is undoubtedly one of the major highlights of the film. His powerful performance added more strength to the film. Especially, his performance in the action sequences will be an eye feast for the action lovers. Rakul Preet is absolutely beautiful in the film. She played a different kind of role when compared to her other movies but she has portrayed it in a beautiful way. She carried herself in an elegant way. Prakash Raj has delivered an intense performance and Ramya Krishna also delivered a stunning performance. Both Prakash Raj and Ramya Krishna played vital roles in the film and they delivered their best. Vamsi Krishna performed well. Renuka is perfect for her character. RJ Vigneshkanth did his best. Amrutha Srinivasan is good.
Technical Aspects:
The production values by S Laxman Kumar under Prince Pictures are lavish. It is evident that the producers haven't compromised in terms of quality. Music by Harris Jayaraj is pretty good. Some of the songs are not that good but his BGM is decent. Cinematography by R Velraj is colorful. He has produced some sleek visuals for the movie. Editing by Anthony L Ruben could have been better. The runtime is crisp.
Verdict:
Though the storyline is not that great, Rajath Ravishankar has narrated it in a decent way. His pace of narration fluctuated a little bit in the second half of the film. The first half of the movie Dev is visually grand and filled with a glossy friendship & romance track elevated by the lead characters. Karthi is at his regular best and played his character very well. His scenes with friends are the best. The heroine Rakul Preet Singh is stunning and has a different styling for this one. The film will surely impress those who like watching Love stories.
The first half of the film introduces the behavior of the lead character and the main story runs only in the second half only. There is more and more love along with the conflicts that arise, drama, melodrama and eventually resulted in the climax! The performances from the lead actors is a huge plus for the film. The music too elevated the film's subject and mood. A perfect film for Valentine's day but everyone might not like the film.
