Washington DC, [USA] : 'Insatiable', a Netflix original dark comedy, is facing a backlash for promoting "fat-shaming".
In the trailer that came out on Thursday, Disney actress Debby Ryan plays the role of Patty, a high school girl who loses a lot of weight during summers and shows up for the first day of her senior year, thirsty for revenge against everyone who bullied her for being overweight.
Shortly after the trailer was released, Twitter exploded with comments criticising the plot of the series.
A user tweeted, "Hey @netflix and @insatiable_. Stop creating/endorsing shows about how it's "cool" and "quirky" for girls to starve themselves. Also, painting the fat girl as a revenge-filled villain isn't cute or original. You're disgusting."

Another tweet said, "you have a chance to make creative, engaging, original content from fat people about fat people's lives and you choose to ... put a skinny person in a fat suit and make jokes about how sad her life is and about what a crazy bitch she turns into. That's so lazy and pathetic."

'Commando' actress Alyssa Milano, who plays the role of Patty's lawyer, responded to the backlash by tweeting, "We are not shaming Patty. We are addressing (through comedy) the damage that occurs from fat shaming. I hope that clears it up"
We are not shaming Patty. We are addressing (through comedy) the damage that occurs from fat shaming. I hope that clears it up. Also, this article does a good job of explaining it more: https://t.co/WoR8R7TjqR #Insatiable https://t.co/GFkDdsn1uh

Milano also tagged a 'Teen Vogue' article in the tweet saying the article will explain "it" more clearly.
The link to the article was also tweeted by Debby.
