Hyderabad: DBS Bank India Ltd on Tuesday launched its first branch in the city. Besides the bank also said that it would employ another 1,000 engineers to their team of current 1,200 software engineers and developers, placed at its Tech Hub in the city.

The bank, which converted its Indian operations into a wholly-owned subsidiary on March 1, is aggressively moving towards expanding its footprint. With a presence in 12 cities now, DBS plans to add eight new cities and nine branches.

Briefing the media, Surojit Shome, CEO, DBS Bank India, said: “The bank in its 50th year, foresees SMEs and consumer banking as our growth engines. In this regard, we would be investing up to Rs 150 crore on network expansion over a period of 18 months".In addition, DBS looks toward opening over 100 touch points across 25 cities in a year or so, he added.

The Singapore-based bank has its largest technology development centre out of its home country in Hyderabad. Spread over 2 lakh sft with 1,200 engineers now, the bank has charted out plans to expand the centre with an additional 2 lakh sft. Moreover, it is in the process of recruiting 1,000 people for which the bank is conducting Hackathons.

“From Hyderabad, DBS builds its technology products for its prime markets being India, China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong. Customer experience and automation drives the development of new products.

Banks have shifted from competing on interest rates to consumer experience as most of the banking takes place on mobile. Hence, the expansion plan is in line with our focus towards developing new tech products,” said Mohit Kapoor, the head of DBS Asia Hub2.
