Hyderabad Airport City being developed by diversified GMR Group in the vicinity of the sprawling Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is fast becoming an ideal destination investments and ultramodern landscape, making its presence felt in the State of Telangana. GMR is developing this India’s newest business & leisure destination which offers an integrated ecosystem covering theme based, anchor-led development zones which include key ports and establishments suc as Business Port, Health Port, Education Port, Fun Port, Retail Park, Logistics Park and Aerospace Park (multi-product SEZ).
The objective is to create a state-of-the-art Aerotropolis that is fully integrated and strategically placed linking the airport, contributing to its revenue while being a catalyst and driver of the economy for Telangana.Recently, GMR Hyderabad Aviation SEZ Limited (GHASL), a part of Hyderabad Airport City and a 100 per cent subsidiary of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) has been chosen by Safran to base its 13,000 sqm plant to manufacture aircraft engines parts, for LEAP turbofan engine from CFM International.
Safran had also signed an agreement in 2018 to produce LEAP engine harnesses in a 4,000 sqm facility to be delivered by GHASL. This goes on to demonstrate the potential that the Hyderabad Airport City offers. “We welcome Safran Aircraft Engines at GMR Aerospace & Industrial Park, following Safran Electrical & Power business last year. We are happy to partner in this strategic development taking shape in India’s newest state of Telangana. Safran’s presence adds great value to the niche aerospace cluster which GMR is developing at Hyderabad Airport City,” said GBS Raju, Business Chairman- Airports, GMR Group.
This agreement not only gives us an opportunity to develop the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for the company, but also a prospect to contribute to the Telangana State’s aggressive efforts towards turning Hyderabad into India's new aerospace and defence manufacturing destination, he added.Paris-based Safran is an international high-technology group, operating in the aircraft propulsion and equipment, space and defense markets. It has a global presence, with more than 91,000 employees.
Aman Kapoor, CEO, GMR Airport Land Development, said, “GMR Hyderabad Airport City aims to become a massive new urban conglomeration in South India and its proximity to the airport will open up new vistas for considerable international investment. We are glad to have Safran Aircraft Engines and Safran Electrical & Power as part of our hub”.The facility is envisioned to contribute to the government’s concerted efforts to turn Hyderabad as the hub for aerospace and defence manufacturing. We are glad that it is gaining altitude and taking off fostering the entrepreneurial spirit of all the stakeholders, he added.
The Hyderabad Airport City with its strong positioning is expected to drive the growth of Brand Hyderabad on a global scale making Telangana a preferred investment destination. With a round the clock world-class airport in its core, the facility offers several unique selling propositions.
With the Hyderabad Airport handling more than 21 million passengers every year and growing 20 per cent YoY, the Hyderabad Airport City stands out as one singular economic unit leading to the emergence of cities using airports more effectively as a broader economic lever to drive investment and urban development, feels GMR Group.
