Hyderabad: The Indian Poultry Equipment Manufactures’ Association (IPEMA) on Monday announced that the 12th Poultry India Expo would be held in the city from November 28, 2018. The three-day event will witness participation from 330 Indian and 18 foreign exhibits representing companies related to the poultry industry. Also, 1,400 delegates will be attending a seminar on ‘How to double the farmers income’, organised on November 27, 2018.
Telangana is the highest producer of chicken and eggs, bringing it the title ‘poultry basket of India’, said a member of the poultry association. “Telangana poultry industry produces 2 crore broiler chicken per month while the layer production is 4 crore eggs. And, more than 5 lakh people in the state are dependent on the poultry industry for employment,” said Dr G Ranjith Reddy, president, Telangana Poultry Breeders Association.
However, he said the growth of the poultry industry has slowed down due to lower consumption. “The per capita consumption of eggs is 120 and 8 kg of chicken in TS whereas in India it is 3.5 kg of chicken and 65 eggs. The per capita consumption in comparison to other countries, is less in India. The growth of the poultry industry can be supported, with the increase in consumption and implementation of minimum support price,” he added.
