Hindustan Shipyard installs rooftop solar plant

​Hyderabad: Visakhapatnam-based Hindustan Shipyard Limited, the shipbuilding organization, on Friday inaugurated the largest rooftop solar plant of Andhra Pradesh. The 2MW plant commissioned by CleanMax Solar is expected to meet 35 per cent of Hindustan Shipyard’s power requirement.

Besides, the shipyard intends to save Rs 48 lakh per annum in energy costs with 28 lakh units of clean solar energy being generated annually by the plant. And, seven buildings in the same premises are equipped with solar panels including the blue sheds, informed the organisation in a statement.

L V Sarat Babu, Chairman and Managing Director, Hindustan Shipyard Limited, said: “We are extremely happy to adopt clean technology by partnering with CleanMax Solar for being an environmentally responsible organisation.

This 2 MW rooftop solar plant is one of the largest across any Government facility in India. It will help reduce carbon footprint by abating 2,300 tons of CO2 per year which is equivalent to planting almost 58,000 fully grown trees.”
