Ongole: Joint Collector of Prakasam district S Nagalakshmi said that the Election Commission (EC) ordered to organise special campaigns to create awareness on the importance of vote, new enrolments and receiving claims and modifications on February 23 and 24 (Saturday and Sunday) at all polling booths in the district.
As part of the awareness programme, the district administration organised a 5K run from the flyover at Kurnool Road to the mini stadium in the town and a rangoli competition in Ongole on Friday morning.
Nagaklakshmi said that the Collector has ordered the 3300 polling booth officers to be available at the polling booths with the new registration and modification forms on these two days from morning to evening.
She said that every citizen, who completed 18 years of age should register for the vote as this could be the last chance for them to get vote before the coming elections.
She said that vote is the right to the public and it should be utilized to elect the person who could develop their lives. She also asked the public to exercise their right to vote without any obligations.
She presented cash prizes to the winners at first place PV Krishna Reddy, second place M Srinivas, third place Veerabrahmam, fourth place P Ramireddy, fifth place K Rajesh and consolation prizes to the next 10 finishers of the run.
She also presented cash prize of Rs 5000 to K Subbalakshmi, Rs 3000 to Mani Manjari, Rs 2000 to M Venkata Lakshmi and consolation prizes to few others for their performance in the rangoli competition.
The STEP CEO B Ravi, social welfare department DD Lakshmi Sudha, ICDS project director Visalakshmi, DSDO Yatiraj, DEO Subbarao, RDO Penchala Kishore, Agriculture department JD Srirama Murthy, MEPMA PD Singaiah and others also participated in the programmes.
