On YSRCP plaint, Election Commission of India team conducts random checks of electoral lists

Tirupati: Based on the complaint given by YSRCP Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy to the Election Commission of India (ECI) over deletion of newly enrolled voters from electoral lists in Chandragiri and Tirupati Assembly constituencies, a 3-member ECI team comprising Anurag Sharma, M Malik and A Ravi came to Tirupati from New Delhi.

For the last two days, they have been checking the electoral lists randomly in Chandragiri and Tirupati segments. In his complaint, the MLA alleged voter names were deleted from the electoral list by the local officials as ruling TDP leaders exerted pressure on them.

According to information, some unknown persons have placed fake requests in the ECI website for deletion of newly enrolled voters in Chandragiri constituency terming them as ineligible. Especially, the ECI team checked the voters list on the outskirts of Tirupati including Timminaidupalem and Mangalam and Perur panchayat in Chandragiri constituency.

The team members interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and also took feedback from the voters. Chevireddy brought to the notice of the ECI team that 11,000 newly enrolled voters were deleted from the electoral list in Perur by officials concerned after ruling party leaders
exerted pressure on them.

Responding over allegations of YSRCP MLA, District In-charge Collector PS Girisha has informed the ECI team that they have filed police cases against three persons, who have been involved in placing bogus request for deletion of votes through online. However, there is no chance to delete 11,000 votes at a time without proper checking, he stated.

The EC team instructed the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and BLOs to cross-check name and address of every voter with Aadhaar details.
