Vice-President of India to inaugurate Necklace Road project today

Nellore: Prestigious Necklace Road project, sanctioned as part of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme, encircling the Nellore city, is going to be inaugurated by the Vice-President of India M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday. Before dedicating the Necklace Road to the denizens, the Swarnala Cheruvu will be cleaned after completion of civil and beautification works.
Emerging as tier-2 city with industries, economic zones and many manufacturing units, Nellore is plagued with several issues with people migration. Now, civic body is focusing on city beautification. The Nellore Urban Development Authority (NUDA) constructed a road, walking track, cycle track from Irukalala Parameswari temple to Collector Bungalow road on the lines of Necklace Road in Hyderabad city.
The main purpose of the road is to develop the Nellore Tank (Swarnala Cheruvu) as a tourism hub and to provide pastime activity for the residents of Nellore. Scores of visitors throng the tank to participate in popular Roti Festival and offer prayers at the Bara Shaheed Dargah. Officials said that they were expecting a good patronage to this project once all the amenities were in place after completion of the project.
Now, works have been speeded up for early completion of the project and funds have been allocated from the AMRUT programme. Municipal Administration department had proposed the tank bund with Rs 17 crore and the NUDA is taking up the project.
Hyderabad based contract company had taken up the works. Besides developing Necklace Road, administration also linked development of 10 parks in the nearby areas for some respite to the city population. Ghats in the Dargah area would also be spruced up as part of the project for more respite to the devotees, who attend for various occasions.
Even though, the project was designed by the civic body subsequently has been handed over to the NUDA after its formation. The length of the bund is around 200 metres. “Works for construction of Necklace Road in the city have been completed in fast pace. We would arrange food court, meditation centre, walking track and water sports here.
Necklace Road would become a popular tourist spot in future,” said Municipal Minister P Narayana. The Minister said Venkaiah will also inaugurate 20 parks, additional classrooms in municipal schools, cloth and mutton markets and dedicate underground drainage to the people. “Naidu will lay foundation stone for construction of arches at the entrance of Nellore city,” he added.
