Guntur: Minister for Agriculture Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said that the State government will release input subsidy of Rs2,200 crore, soon to extend helping hand to the farmers whose crops were damaged due to drought and cyclones.
Chandramohan Reddy participated in a function organised at Siddartha Gardens in Guntur on Friday in connection with the presentation of awards by Tobacco Institute of India. The awards were presented to the farmers belonging to AP, Karnataka and Telangana states who adopted best agriculture practices in tobacco cultivation.
Speaking on this occasion, the minister reminded that the State government had already sanctioned input subsidy of Rs.3,200 crore for the benefit of farmers in the State and the government had already waived Rs.24,000 crore crop loans taken by the farmers.
He reiterated that the State government was committed for the welfare of farmers. He assured that the government will extend helping hand to the tobacco farmers also and reminded that AP was in third place in tobacco production.
Tobacco Board chairperson K Sunita said that compensation will be paid to the tobacco farmers whose crop was damaged due to cyclone soon and added that Rs.3,060 crore revenue will come due to tobacco exports from AP.
Earlier, Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy given T.I.I Awards to 17 best farmers in A P,Telangana and Karnataka states and felicitated them. MLC Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, MLAs Modugula Venugopala Reddy and Shaik Mustafa and Tobacco Institute of India director Syed Mohammed were among those present at the programme.
