Vijayawada: As part of promoting Indian culture and arts, Mummineni Subba Rao Siddhartha Kala Peetham organised a classical music concert captioned ‘Wind and Strings’ at Webinar Hall of PB Siddhartha College of Arts & Science here on Tuesday.
The concert was the combination of Soprano Saxophone by Phil Scarff and Hawaiian guitar by Jaywant Naidu.
Phil Scarff (California) had his Hindustani music training in Pune from Pandit Shreeram Devasthali, Pandi Suryakant Khaladkar and Pandi Shyamrao Lonkar. Phil is a pioneer in Hindustani classical music on Soprano Saxophone.
Jaywant Naidu was grown up in Hyderabad and Nagpur and trained in Mumbai from Dinesh Kumar Sampath, Kistaiah and K Jangaiah.
The duo commenced the concert in Hindustani Teen Tal and followed by South Indian Keethana “Vatapi Ganapatim bhaje” and concluded with a tail piece “Dhum”.
Phil Scraff proved their masterful control of Indian classical music and beautifully played on saxophone and Jaywant Naidu also played suitably on guitar. The audience absolutely spellbound in rapt attention during the concert.
The duo mesmerized the listeners throughout the performance. Savan Takeri efficiently supported on Tabla.
The artistes were felicitated by Ch Krishna Rao, Joint Secretary and T Sri Hari Rao, Member of Kala Peetham. T Ramesh, treasurer of Kala Peetham supervised the programme.
