Tirupati: Sanskrit language and literature played a huge role in the development and sustenance of Indian culture, not merely in propagation, observed the secretary of Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi Dr K Sreenivasa Rao.
Addressing the participants at the 13thAll India Sanskrit Students Talent Festival 2019 at Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP) in Tirupati on Monday, he said that much of India’s history and information about various aspects of existence were contained within the Sanskrit language texts and Sanskrit literature is nothing but repository of Indian culture.
“India is one land where cultures flourished and continue to flourish till date. Excellence was not outdated here but it is a living thing and among the masses. Excellence is part of our DNA and not confined in exclusive clubs.
Indian culture has been a democratic one in which everyone is entitled to live a life in full and also has eligibility to moksha or salvation was very unlike in many civilizations where there is an exclusive club for eternally damned souls.
He called upon the students and faculty to preserve the cultural traditions of the country in which they have advantage over other common people as they were already well-versed in Sanskrit language and literature.
The vice-chancellor (V-C) of RSVP Prof V Muralidhara Sharma has appealed to student community to imbibe the things which were prevailing in Sanskrit lore and participate in the festival with good spirit and go to their homes with laurels.
Former DGP of AP and a stalwart in Sanskrit Dr K Aravinda Rao stated that Sanskrit Sastras were vast in numbers which cannot be read in a life time. The aims and objectives should be on Sanskrit literature and the knowledge should always be pure. He observed that the Upanishads have given much more importance to nuclear physics.
Earlier, he inaugurated the Sanskrit Science exhibition being organised on the varsity campus. The festival was started with a welcome address by the dean of Academic affairs Prof Rani Sadasivamurthy. The registrar of Vidyapeetha Prof GSR Krishnamurthy, co-coordinators Dr S Muralidhar Rao, Dr Somnath Dash and Dr Ch Nagaraju and Prof Sripada Bhat were also present on the dais.
