The Urban police sent a proposal to the State government for establishment of a cybercrime police station in Tirupati with the increase of online frauds

Tirupati: The Urban police sent a proposal to the State government for establishment of a cybercrime police station in Tirupati with the increase of online frauds.

To investigate cybercrime cases, a separate wing, Technical Investigation Team (TIT), has been functioning under the direct supervision of the Urban Superintendent of Police (SP). The wing lacks manpower to investigate all the cases. A cybercrime police station was proposed to deal exclusively with cyber frauds.

Cybercrimes like customers being cheating by fake online shopping websites, seeking money from youth in the name of job offers and drawing money from the accounts of bank customers by obtaining information in fraudulent manner are on the rise.

The Urban police registered 78 cybercrime cases in 2018 and arrested 38 and recovered Rs 57.23 lakh from them. The recovered cash was handed over to the victims.

Speaking to The Hans India, Urban SP KKN Anburajan said a separate laboratory is under construction on the premises of the Armed Reserve Police Grounds near Tirupati for speedy detection of cybercrime cases. Sixty per cent of lab construction is completed, he added.

The SP mentioned that cops are creating awareness among people about various cyber frauds. A proposal was sent to the government to establish a cybercrime police station on the second floor of the West Police Station building, he stated.
