Tirupati: Vinod Kumar Yadav, Chairman of the Railway Board (CRB), has hoisted a 100-foot tall national flag in front of the Tirupati Railway Station here on Thursday. After taking charge as CRB, Vinod Kumar Yadav came to Tirupati for the first time to offer prayers to Lord Venkateswara.

As part of his visit to Tirupati, Vinod Kumar hoisted national flag by pressing the switch. It may be noted that the South Central Railway (SCR) has set up the 100-foot tall tricolour at cost of Rs 20 lakh. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, CRB stated that the Tirupati Railway Station will get a new look once works taken up at a cost of Rs 450 crore were completed in the next two years.

A passenger lounge was set up with five-star facilities, he said and added that there is a huge demand for additional trains from Tirupati to other important destinations across the country.

The CRB assured of developing Tiruchanur and West railway stations on par with main railway station in Tirupati. “Pit lines for maintenance of coaches are coming up at West railway station.

The long pending problem of Tirupati residents to cross the Rayalacheruvu railway gate will end soon,” he stated. Yadav said that the construction of Road under Bridge (RuB) at Rayalacheruvu railway gate will be jointly taken up by the State government and the Indian Railways.

All railway level crossings between Chandragiri and Tirupati will be either changed to RuBs or RoBs (Road over Bridges) as per the local conditions, he assured. Earlier, a warm welcome was accorded to Vinod Kumar by railway officials of the Tirupati. Station Director K Satyanarayana, former Tirupati MP Varaprasad, TUDA Chairman Narasimha Yadav and railway staff were present.
