Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday ordered investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the knife attack by a youth on YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Presently, the case is being investigated by a Special Investigation Team of the Andhra Pradesh police. Sudhakar Reddy, counsel for Jaganmohan Reddy, contended that the petitioner had no faith in the state police and wanted a thorough investigation by a central agency, preferably NIA.

The High Court, which concurred with the argument of the petitioner that there is every danger of tampering with the evidence, ordered the NIA to investigate the case. The Centre already took decision to transfer the case to the NIA and registered an FIR on January 1. The FIR was registered basing on the complaint lodged by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer Dinesh Kumar. This was conveyed to the High Court on Friday.

It may be recalled that Jaganmohan Reddy was attacked at the Visakhapatnam airport on October 25, 2018 by J Srinivas, an airport canteen employee with a knife used in cockfight. Jagan neither preferred to lodge a complaint nor accepted to record his statement with the AP police expressing no faith in them. The ruling Telugu Desam Party alleged that the attacker was a fan of Jagan and the attack was a planned one for sympathy.
