Vijayawada: “I am happy to see my entire family into the field of music, dance and drama,” said yesteryear theatre personality G Radha Krishna Murthy. He did a Post Graduate diploma in Theatre Arts from Andhra University.
Radha Krishna Murthy retired as Lecturer from SRR and CVR Government College, Vijayawada. He encouraged students to participate in drama activities during his service. Veteran writer cum director Jandhyala was one of his disciples.
His proximity with theatre crossed 70 years. He expressed his happiness to share stage with theatre exponents like Desiraju Jagannadharao, Ravu Gopalarao, K Venkateswara Rao and he felt it was a privilege.
He acted in many plays like Edemiti, Natakam, Ghosha, Kala Ratri, Edi Bharatam, Keerthi seshulu and others. He said that Prasadam in ‘Edemiti’ of Bhamidipati Radha Krishna was his favorite role.
Presently he is enjoying the retired life and encouraging his family members to continue to promote music and drama. Suseela Devi, wife of Radhakrishna Murthy was also violin artiste. She taught music basics to her daughters and also granddaughter.
Dr G Vijaya Sarathi, son of Radha Krishna Murthy was also mrudangam artiste. He trained in Music College, Vijayawada. Vijaya Sarathi did doctorate in Physics and presently working as Dean for Narayana Colleges in Andhra Pradesh.
Despite of his busy official schedule, Sarathi is participating in musical concerts and did more than 200 concerts so far. Vijaya Sarathi is actively participating in many cultural organizations like Sumadhura Kala Niketan (Treasurer), Vijayawada Music Academy (Vice president).
Vijay Samadhi opined that every college should made compulsory one of the cultural activities along with the academics.
Vijay Sarathi encouraged his daughter Sai Sravya to learn music. Sravya is doing Masters in KL University. She started learning music at the age of seven from Indira.
She had advance coaching from Udaya Sankar, Nukala China Satyanarayana, and N Ch Parthasarathi. She also had training from Ramachari in light music. She gave about 200 classical concerts and also participating in light music programmes.
She likes to play ‘veena’ besides vocal. She likes ‘Yamuna kalyani ragam’. While expressing her life ambition, Sravya likes to continue journey with music to reach heights.
In this present modern and competitive world, it is very rare to see a complete family having interest and also knowledge cultural field like classical music, drama, and dance.
