Visakhapatnam: The Dhan Foundation, in association with MEPMA-Andhra Pradesh, for the first time in the country, has started a new platform to the servant maids ‘Common Interest Group’ (CIG).
To provide recognition, upgradation of skills, identifying their health issues and to ensure social security to them, the Dhan Foundation, in association with MEPMA-Urban Community Division of GVMC, started the CIG in Visakhapatnam. After convinced with the concepts as many as 2,500 domestic workers registered their names.
Considering the Dhan Foundation's survey, the MEPMA-AP started a special training programme to domestic workers and the training was organised by UCD-GVMC. For every 50 members, one CIG was formed.
During the training, the topics covered including communication and ethics in workplace, communication techniques, understanding employer expectations and maintain good relationship with employer, understanding and scheduling of duties within a work plan, home and personal safety and security, personal and hygienic practice in workplace, comprehensive cleaning, product usage and wastage control, first aid awareness, electronic appliances usage, bed making, table and tray settings, mehindi and henna applications, said Visakhapatnam Regional Coordinator, K Rama Prabha.
“We are planning to launch domestic workers service provider or association for strengthening their livelihood. An urban services App for domestic and home nurse are also being framed. In other words, the CIG will be a nodal agency to maintain cordial relations between the employer and employee.
Community publicity, setting up a steering committee with stakeholders, opening the accounts to CIGs, formation of city level society or trust, online service provider, helpline for grievances and linking with social welfare schemes are a few among several other plans soon," Rama Prabha told The Hans India.
