Vijayawada: Minister for labour and employment Pithani Satyanarayana and excise minister K S Jawahar on Tuesday visited the cyclone-affected areas in Mogalturu and Narasarapuram mandals in West Godavari district and inspected the paddy crop damage and other loss suffered by the farmers in the district. The villagers and the officials explained to the two ministers the impact of cyclone Phethai, which crossed the coast on Monday.
Speaking to the cyclone-affected people, Pithani Satyanarayana said instructions were issued to the officials on Tuesday to begin the enumeration of crop loss suffered by the farmers due to the cyclone. He said transparency will be maintained in the enumeration and compensation to be paid as per the norms.
He assured the farmers that the government would pay compensation to the victims as early as possible. The government would discuss with the Union government for construction of wall along the coast to protect the lives of people during cyclones, he said while adding that the government would prepare a detailed data on the loss suffered due to the cyclone.
Excise minister K S Jawahar said the government would construct pucca houses along the coast for the safety of people living on the sea coast. He said the West Godavari district administration began work to remove the trees crashed onto the road and to restore power lines and electrical poles. Joint collector M Venugopal Reddy, revenue divisional officer Y S V Satyanarayana and others participated in the visit.
