Vijayawada: It was a delightful moment for the 150-odd flight passengers, who came from Singapore to Vijayawada by a direct IndiGo flight on Tuesday evening.
The passengers joyfully traveled in the aircraft and reached Vijayawada International Airport at 3.40 pm. After completing the formalities, they came out excitedly from the old terminal building searching for their beloved ones waiting at the airport. The airport staff and CRDA officials welcomed the passengers by presenting flowers.
A new era in the history of Vijayawada Airport began on Tuesday with the landing of international Airbus flight as the city is put on the map of international airports.
A small family of three, S Anil Kumar, Swetha and Vamsica happily landed at the Vijayawada Airport and were delighted to meet their relatives at the Airport. Speaking to The Hans India, Anil Kumar said it was a wonderful moment for him because he directly landed at the Vijayawada Airport. He said that earlier, he used to go to either Hyderabad or Chennai to reach Vijayawada.
He said the Government of Andhra Pradesh has done an excellent job by taking initiative to operate flights between Vijayawada and Singapore. Another passenger N Ganesh, a business man in Singapore, said he was excited to land at the Vijayawada Airport.
He said he reached Vijayawada in four hours and saved his valuable time. Ganesh visits his native place in Guntur district once in every six months. He said people of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and West Godavari districts living in Singapore are very happy with the launching of services.
He further said the IndiGo flight charges are less compared to Singapore Airlines, which operates services to Vizag and Hyderabad. Young man Bapaiah Chowdary was thrilled to travel as the first passenger to come to Vijayawada in international flight on Tuesday.
He said he came to Vijayawada for a joy as he wanted to be one of the first passengers to come to Vijayawada Airport after it became international Airport on Tuesday. “I came here for just couple of hours and would go back to Singapore in the same flight," said Chowdary.
Two youth G Ramakoteswara Rao and P Ramesh, both employees in Singapore, boarded the first flight and comfortably reached Vijayawada. They were delighted to see their family members at the Airport.
Airport Director G Madhusudana Rao, Principal Secretary, Govt of AP, Ajay Jain, and others expressed happiness with the successful launching of international flights from Vijayawada on Tuesday.
