Vijayawada: SRM University-AP in association with Amara Raja Batteries will be hosting a 3-day ‘International Conference on Green Energy Technologies for Smart Cities (GETSC-2018)’ at SRM University-AP in Amaravati during December 19 - 21, according to a communiqué from the University.

Dr VK Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) will inaugurate the conference.

SRM’s conference aims at highlighting advancements in the principal sciences that sustain modern green cities namely, Green Energy, Renewable Energy, Materials Science, Environmental Science, and Green Technologies.

The conference will work as a bridge between the academic community (faculty and research students), practitioners and policymakers.

Over 45 international delegates from over 10 countries and 150 delegates from across India will be attending – these include distinguished academics, researchers and higher education leaders in the field of material science, renewable energy and green technologies.

The conference will be chaired by SRM-AP Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof D Narayana Rao, Dr Arumugam Manthiram, Director of the Texas Materials Institute, UT-Austin, USA and M Jagadish, CTO of the Amara Raja Batteries.

“We at SRM AP are focused on R&D and deploying it for greater good. One of the main problems regarding the Smart City projects is the issue of energy access and the prohibitive costs thereof.

We aim to prove through this conference that the sustainable need not be expensive and we need to focus on solutions that are green and sustainable in our quest for energy solutions.

We are bringing in global experts to share their work with us,” says Dr D Narayana Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor, SRM AP – Amaravati and the conference chairman.

The idea was to explore ways to promote the development and use of sustainable energy without disrupting the environmental and social fabric of smart cities, he said.

“Putting the focus on green technologies specifically designed for smart cities is the best investment for the future”, says Dr Jatis Kumar Dash, Assistant Professor in Physics and the conference convener.
