Tirupati: The State government sanctioned Rs 9.62 crore from SC sub-plan for construction of drains, laying roads and supply of water in colonies where majority are SCs in all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
The funds were sanctioned to all municipalities and corporations in the district. On the directions of Director of Municipal Administration K Kanna Babu, Rs 3.74 crore was granted to Tirupati Municipal Corporation, Rs 2.54 crore for Punganur municipality, Srikalahasti municipality Rs 94 lakh, Madanapalle Rs 29.8 lakh, Nagari Rs 23.9 lakh and Puttur Rs 23.21 lakh.
The Directorate of Municipal Administration has fixed a dead line of completing works by January 31, 2019. Except Nagari and Puttur municipalities, all other ULBs are executing the SC sub-plan works at a brisk phase. Even, civic bodies have taken up solid waste clearance with the funds of the 14th Finance Commission. Waste to manure generation projects are being implemented in all ULBs successfully.
In Tirupati, corporation officials have called for tenders to procure 270 pushcarts and battery-fitted autos for collecting the dry and wet waste separately from the households.
The DMA has appreciated the Punganur Commissioner in a review meeting for implementing manure making practises in various divisions. Punganur Municipal Commissioner KLN Varma speaking to The Hans India said that a deadline was fixed to complete works by December 31. “We have taken up construction of 150 drains, water tanks and laying of roads in 24 divisions of Punganur town,” he stated.
