Tirupati: Social activist and writer Prof Kancha Ilaiah gave a call to SC, ST and OBCs to unite and fight against communal forces to protect their fundamental rights.
A two-day national seminar on ‘Dalit rights and implementation of reservations’ was organised by Kulavivaksha Vyathireka Porata Samithi (KVPS) at Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) here on Saturday, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.
Addressing the participants of seminar, Kancha Ilaiah said that fundamental rights of oppressed people are under threat in the present political scenario.
He expressed anguish over attacks on Dalits in several parts of the country.
But, the Central government did not take action against those who were involved in committing atrocities against Dalits, he fumed.
Ilaiah advised the Central and State governments to encourage inter-caste marriages and provide Rs 5 lakh as financial assistance for married couple.
He stated policy makers and higher officials are not giving priority to unemployed youth of SC, ST and BC communities while filling posts.
Former YSRCP Tirupati MP Varaprasad alleged that the Dalits and backward castes are being supressed by forward castes.
He mentioned united fight by oppressed class is the only solution to overcome social evils like untouchability.
MLC Y Srinivasulu Reddy alleged that the Modi government is trying to bring back Manu Dharma Sastram which was practiced in the society against Dalits.
He exhorted people to teach a befitting lesson to the BJP-led NDA government in the forthcoming general elections.
Earlier, a rally was organised from Ambedkar Bhavan to SVU via Balaji Colony. KVPS state President Kothapalli Subramanyam, CPM leaders A Pullaiah and K Kumar Reddy, retired judge Gurappa, Delegates from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka other states were present.
