Tirupati: The mandals in the eastern parts of Chittoor district experiencing intermittent rains since morning of Thursday due to the cyclone Gaja effect. The district administration has put on the officials in the 25 mandals in the east on high alert and the departments including civil supplies, roads and buildings, electricity, medical and health, rural water supply and revenue were geared up to face any eventuality and avoid loss of lives and properties.

A control room (phone number 08572240500) has been set up at the Collectorate to receive information from the mandals in case of any emergencies to take prompt measure. The employees in the mandals were directed to stay in the place of their work to be available to the people in the villages, said an official release adding that the administration is fully ready to face any eventuality.

Speaking to the media in Tirupati on Thursday, District Collector P S Pradyumna said holiday was declared for all government and private schools on Friday in 25 mandals as a precautionary measure. Sand bags were placed near tanks and ponds to prevent the breaches of bunds, he mentioned.
