Kadapa: The fourth crest gate of the Lower Sagileru reservoir in B Kodur mandal had washed away in the water on late Wednesday night. Officials of the Irrigation department have made arrangements to release water from Sagileru to Pedda Cheruvu on Thursday morning through the District Collector. Water from Pedda Cheruvu will be used for cultivating 1.5 lakh acres in Badvel constituency.
Farm lands in few hundred acres have submerged in the water. Badvel MLA T Jayaramulu inspected the fields which were submerged in water and expressed anger over the officials for failing to repair the crest gate despite repeated appeals from the farmers.
Alleging negligence of the irrigation officials, farmers staged a road blockade on Porumamilla-Mydukur main road on Thursday, demanding them to immediately restore the crest gate. They also demanded the state government to pay compensation for submerged fields.
