Tirupati: In an effort to take the civic administration nearer to the residents, Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) Commissioner V Vijay Rama Raju began ‘Ward Darshini’-visiting of the divisions-in the pilgrim city to find out the problems related to Health and Sanitation, Water Supply, Engineering and Town Planning Departments, here on Thursday.
The MCT chief in his three-hour long inspection today saw himself a clogged drain and encroachment of pavements and road margins in the 17th division in the city from where he started his Ward Darshini programme aimed to cover all the fifty divisions, daily one division. Raju directed the authorities of the Town Planning department to identify the encroachments, division-wise, for taking up their removal without any delay and send a compliance report to him.
The visit which started from Palle Veedhi in the division, the Commissioner covered more than a dozen localities in the area and did not spared even the narrow lanes and by lanes to see himself the sanitation, drainage maintenance and encroachments if any while moving from street to street in the densely populated division. Department heads, members of the Swachh Mitra and Sankala Society in the division, Ward Officer and Special Officer accompanied the Commissioner, who began his inspection immediately after the dawn exactly at 6 am and continued it till 9 am.
The Commissioner did not miss the opportunity to interact with the people on the road, in the houses, vendors to stress on making the city plastic free, maintaining cleanliness, segregation of waste at the source and avoid dumping of the garbage in the drains obstructing the flow and also elicit the details about the collection of taxes including property, water charges in the ward from the revenue officials to know the performance and pending position.
He visited a municipal school, municipal hospital, railway station and flower market in the division. The Commissioner urged the people to bring to his notice any pending works or issues related to water supply, roads, sanitation and drains and also suggestion for further improvement of the facilities to make the city best in the country.
