Plea to keep Godavari clean

Rajamahendravaram: MLC Adireddy Appa Rao underlined the need to avoid polluting Godavari water for which everyone should take it as a social responsibility.

Participating in an awareness meeting conducted on Swachha Godavari at Kotilingala Ghat under the aegis of National Green Core (NGC) here on Tuesday, he said the river water was getting polluted because of the release of drain water and dumping of garbage into the river.

He advised NCC to organise awareness programmes in the schools and colleges for its effective implementation and congratulated NCC for conducting Swachha Godavari programme.

Mayor Pantham Rajani Sesha said Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation was initiating necessary steps to avoid pollution of Godavari water and trying to bring awareness among the people.

The corporation was diverting drain water to some other place instead of releasing it into the river.

NCC officer G Satyanarayana said eco clubs were arranged across the state and the organization was putting in its efforts to bring awareness among the people, mainly students to avoid pollution of air, environment and water.
