Pink run to create awareness on breast cancer flagged off

Visakhapatnam: The beach road was roared with the slogans of “Fit Women for Fit Families” on the Fourth edition of “Vizag Going Pink” flagged off by HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao at RK Beach Road here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the theme of the run which seeks to raise awareness about breast cancer is “Every Woman is Welcome.”
Everyday 10 to 15 minutes of time is what every woman needs to set aside for exercise, yoga or meditation to keep themselves fit and healthy, he said.
Fitness freak and model-turned-actor Milind Soman has initiated this movement and under his able vision India Going Pink has shaped up with ‘Vizag Going Pink’ as the first city run in 2015 exclusively for women.
This is the fourth edition of the run and its key focus is to help women understand the positive effects of adapting active and healthy lifestyle for themselves and empower in building a healthy society.
The main motto of the programme is Women’s only Run for Women’s Health and Breast Cancer Awareness, a part of India Going Pink (www.indiagoingpink.com) under the umbrella of Pinkathon (www.pinkathon.in).
The objective of the event is to encourage women’s health and fitness. It also aims to raise awareness about breast cancer, its causes and prevention.
Breast cancer is one of the leading reasons for cancer deaths amongst women worldwide, despite it being one of the curable cancers if detected early.
The key to control this disease is to create awareness about preventive measures for breast cancer.
Vizag Going Pink offers the running distances of 3Kms, 5 Kms & 10 Kms giving each runner an opportunity to run in their comfort zone.
