Nellore: Special Chief Secretary, Health Medical & Family Welfare Dr Poonam Malakondaiah said that they are planning to get permissions to introduce PG seats in pre-clinical subjects for the ACSR Government Medical College. She also informed that they are applying for PG seats for 2019.

She paid a visit to the ACSR Government Medical College on Monday along with the District Collector R Mutyala Raju and inspected Maternity and Children’s blocks and enquired the patients about medical services being provided to them.

She also inspected the newly inaugurated modular operation theatres in the teaching hospital and held a review meeting with Medical, Health staff members and also teaching staff of ACSR Medical College.

Later addressing the media, Poonam Malakondaiah stated that they have decided to improve amenities in the hostels attached to the Medical College with Rs.15 lakh. Measures would be taken to develop library and college with Rs.1.05 crore. They would arrange seven new operation tables in the newly inaugurated OTs in the teaching hospital.

“We bring the new modular OTs into operation theatres within one month. We have been trying to get NABH accreditation to the teaching hospital for quality care. We have sanctioned Rs.5 crore to the hospital,’ said the Special Chief Secretary.

She also expressed dissatisfaction over number of OPs being recorded in the teaching hospital. She said that teaching hospital has been getting 900-1,100 OPs as of now instead of earlier 2,000.

‘There are 81 Assistant Professors, 41 Associate Professors, 28 Professors in the teaching hospital and there is a need to increase volume of OPs in the hospital. Professors and other staff members have to maintain punctuality for discharging duties, she said.

Hospital Development Committee Chairman Chatla Narasimha Rao, Hospital Superintendent Ch Radha Krishna Raju and others were present.
