Kadapa: The city police have arrested a 10-member gang on the charges of selling gutka and recovered Rs 5.50 lakh cash, two cars, one auto-rickshaw from their possession.
The accused were identified as A Srinivasulu, P Reddaiah of Kadapa city, Y Suresh, N Sivaprasad of Vempalli mandal, R Chandrasekhar Reddy, Dumpallagutta village of Khajipet mandal, A Sekhar of Khajipet mandal, R Venkataramana, N Gopalakrishnaiah, A Satish, Chennuru mandal and Srinivasa Gupta of Alankhanpalli mandal.
Addressing media here on Saturday, DSP SK Masum Basha said that P Reddaiah, the prime accused in the case has been running Venugopala general store at Nagarajupet in the city for several years.
He was having business transactions with Siva Prasad and Suresh, who were illegally transporting gutka from Bangalore city to various places in the district.
They are utilising Venugopala general store as transit point for their illegal trade.
Following tip off, the city police have conducted flash raids on the Venugopala general store and arrested the accused while loading gutka bags into auto.
One town CI N Satyanarayana and SI SK Hakim were present.
