Vijayawada: In view of Dasara festivities, officials of the Food Safety department made a surprise visit to temple, inspected the sheds used for preparing laddus and collected samples of the ingredients which are used for making laddus.

The temple administration prepares more than 10 lakh laddus every year during the Dasara celebrations. As only three days are left for the beginning of Dasara celebrations, Assistant Food Controller N Purnachandra Rao and other officials on Sunday made a surprise check of the cooking shed and verified the quality of ingredients used in preparation of laddus.

Purnachandra Rao made some suggestions to the temple staff on maintaining of hygiene near the cooking shed. The officials also inspected the packaging material and procedures followed by the staff in making laddus. Several thousands of devotees purchase laddus every year during the Dasara celebrations.

N Purnachandra Rao told The Hans India that the number of laddus to be prepared is not yet finalised. He said within two days, the temple administration would take a decision on how many laddus are to be prepared for this festival season. He said samples of the ingredients collected would be sent for lab tests.
