Vijayawada: With the festival season around the corner in the state, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) is gearing up to attract tourists and generate revenue on boat riding in Krishna river. Income on boating is one of the important sources of revenue to the APTDC in Vijayawada division comprises Krishna and Guntur districts.
Safety of tourists is one of the top priorities of APTDC in Krishna river, said APTDC Vijayawada divisional manager Ch Srinivasa Rao. Speaking to The Hans India, he said that adequate life jackets are available at the Berm park for the safety of boat riders in Krishna river.
He said the APTDC was on high alert since the tragic accident of death of 22 persons in mishap in Krishna river at Pavitra Sangamam in November 2017 and been drafting the trained crew for boat ride.
It is expected thousands of tourists would visit the Berm park and Bhavani island this festival season of Dasara, Diwali and Karthika maasam. In the first six months of this financial year 2018-19 from April to September, the APTDC Vijayawada division had earned over Rs 70 lakh with nearly Rs 12 lakh per month.
The revenue of APTDC in 2017-18 was Rs 1.81 crore with monthly average of Rs 15 lakh. Most income was generated on boating in Krishna river. Now, the APTDC is hopeful of earning good revenue for this festival season.
To attract more tourists, the APTDC has recently purchased 30 seat AC boat at a cost of Rs 1 crore, said Ch Srinivasa Rao. He further said an order has been placed for another 50-seat boat to strengthen the fleet.
He said SDRF and NDRF teams are more alert in Krishna river during the festivals like Dasara and Diwali as large number of tourists will visit the Berm park and Bhavani island to enjoy the vacation.
