Visakhapatnam: To mark the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi, RINL CMD PK Rath garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and paid rich tributes to him at Ukkunagaram. Addressing the gathering, Rath recalled the services, principles and the high moral values of Mahatma Gandhi and said that his principle of non-violence is a unique tool with which he fought and won us Independence.

Mahatma’s principle of cleanliness is the basis of overall improvement of society and the nation, he added. He explained that the Swachh Bharat drive initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which works on Gandhiji’s principle, provides a hygienic environment and thus paves a path for clean thoughts.

As part of Sarvamatha Prardhana, special prayers were recited by members of all religions as a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation on the occasion. P Raychaudhury Director (Commercial), KC Das, Director (Personnel), VV Venugopal Rao, Director (Finance) also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.

The CMD distributed “Swachhta Puraskars” to various departments for their exemplary contribution to Swachhta activities undertaken during the fortnight campaign.

To commemorate the occasion, the CMD distributed wheelchairs and adoptive devices to persons with spinal cord injury (SCI) and prosthetics, orthotics, spine braces and callipers to amputees under CSR initiative of RINL.

The project taken up through ‘The Ability People’ at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh will benefit a total of 60 persons, which include 38 persons with spinal cord injury and 22 amputees.
