Tirupati: Traders observed one day Bharat Bandh on Friday to bring the plight of seven crore small businesses of the country to the notice of the central government.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has given a bandh call with various demands. They were demanding immediate stoppage of Walmart deal and no FDI in e-commerce or retail trade of the country. Other demands include withdrawal of permission of 100 percent FDI in single brand retail. Only two tax slabs under GST and no financial penalty should exceed Rs 10,000 and provision of jail should be removed.
An accidental insurance for every GST registered trader and traders should be given status of Tax Collector and should be entitled for pension. Increase of exemption limit under Income Tax up to Rs 5 lakh.
Bank charges on usage of debit/credit cards and electronic payments should not be levied on the traders and should be subsidised directly by the government to banks. They have also demanded the Centre to put a ban on online pharmacy.
The traders in Tirupati closed their shops voluntarily and held a procession from Krishnapuram Thana Circle to the office of the RDO where they submitted a memorandum to the RDO G Narasimhulu.
Tirupati Chamber of Commerce President A Manjunath led the procession in which leaders of various trade associations Pasuparthi Gopinath, Shyam, Venugopal Naidu, Sridhar, Hemanchandra Reddy, TCC Secretary P Madhusudan Rao and others participated. Throughout their demonstration, they raised slogans for the unity of traders.
