Tirupati: The Punganur municipality secured 5th place among all civic bodies in the state and top spot in the district for resolving the civic issues quickly. The Municipal Administration department has announced rankings to civic bodies based on 9 parameters.
The parameters include clearing the garbage from door-to-door, supplying drinking water to households, upkeep of sanitation, construction of toilets in every household, distributing nutritious food for children below five years in Anganwadi centres, fixing LED bulbs in street lights and laying roads. Rankings were given to improve the performance of municipalities in addressing the public grievances. The Punganur municipality has scored 94.31 marks and secured fifth spot among all AP municipalities.
For collection of garbage from 12,767 houses, the sanitation staff entering day-to-day garbage clearance details in online through RFID tagging. The civic body completed construction of community toilets in several colonies where the land is not available as part of the Swachh Bharat programme. Toilet facility was provided to seven colonies and in busy places and 2,186 street lights from the total of 2,271 were replaced with LED bulbs.
As a result, power charges generated from street lights have reduced drastically. Even, the civic body completed construction of drains in most of the localities. CC and blacktop roads were laid in 100 km out of 116. Speaking to The Hans India, Municipal Commissioner K Lokeswara Varma said Punganur municipality secured fifth position in the state for resolving the civic grievances with the involvement of town residents and guidance of District Collector P S Pradyumna.
