Sanskrit a healthy language: RSVP VC Prof V Muralidhara Sharma

• Says no language, except Sanskrit, has more than 1.28 crore ‘sabdas’
• Sanskrit language has more words than Oxford dictionary: Prof Sharma

Tirupati: Under the aegis of Vagvardhini Parishad (Students’ Academic Body), the presentation of ‘Sivananda Memorial Scholarships-2017’ was held at Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP) here on Saturday.

The scholarships were instituted by Swami Sivananda Ashram, Rishikesh and Haridwar.

They gave an amount of Rs 10 lakh to RSVP as corpus and the accrued interest on that would be given to the students of Acharya (PG) in 10 Sastras – Sahitya, Vyakarana, Dharma Sastra, Adviata Vedanta, Vishishtadvaita Vedanta, Dvaita Vedanta, Nyaya, Puranetihasa, Mimamsa and Vedabhashya for toppers of both first and second-year students at Rs 5,000 to each student.

Speaking at the awards presentation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor Prof V Muralidhara Sharma asked the students community to be thorough with language proficiency and sastra too.

Since Sanskrit is having more than 1.28 crore ‘sabdas’ which cannot be seen in any language. Hence, Sanskrit is healthy and wealthy language, he stated.

Even in Oxford dictionary, one can find approximately around 80 words per page and about four lakh odd words can be seen in entire book, whereas Sanskrit has more than that.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the Dean of Academic Affairs Prof RL Narasimha Sastry, the Dean of Veda Vedangas Prof J Ramakrishna, the Dean of Sahitya and Samskriti Prof Ch P Satyanarayana.
