Visakhapatnam: After bifurcation of the state, the AP Tourism sector has recorded a phenomenal growth and attracting global tourists in large numbers and a robust growth in tourist arrivals from 15 per cent to 20 per cent has changed the facet of Andhra Pradesh. With this the state is now stood in number three position across the country in receiving domestic tourists.
Delivering the keynote address on the second day of Indian Association of Tour Operators’ 34th conference here on Friday, Himanshu Sukla, Director, AP Tourism, said that 13 districts in the state were divided into five hubs and each hub consist of two or three districts and subsequently, these hubs have been categorised into spiritual, Buddhist, heritage, beach front, eco-tourism hubs and medical tourism.
Visakhapatnam, the city of destiny is a beautiful place for tourism, currently it has 2,500 rooms in the beach side and the government is taking steps to increase accommodation in the city. He explained about Araku, which is 100 km from Vizag, is a place of eco-tourism and it boasts of best coffee in the world.
Konaseema back Waters and Dindi resort are the finest examples in Rajamahendravaram hub. Recently Dubai – Rajamahendravaram air route was introduced aiming to get more international tourists to the state, Sukla explained.
Tourists can enjoy musical fountain, robotic park, bird arena and many fun-filled adventures in the Bhavani Island. Belum Caves, Orvakal Rock Gardens spread in 1,000 acres and Sculpture Garden Park with ancient cave and igneous rock formations are nature’s gift to the state, Gandikota, the ‘Grand Canyon’ of India, an Adventure Sports Academy, was launched, he explained to the operators.
Andhra Pradesh Tourism has 500 acres of land for development and it is aiming to develop tourism zone in each town across the state. The government is inviting stakeholders to invest in the state, Himanshu Shukla said.
