Visakhapatnam: A strong commitment by a small NGO supported by three NRIs, over 100 tribal families in the thick forest of Visakhapatnam Agency area got potable drinking water.

With the help of social media, the NGO achieved the milestone and provided drinking water to tribal families who are waiting for the facility for the past several decades. Rural Development Service Society (RDSS), Anakapalle, is running by a youth G Balu working for welfare of tribals in Visakhapatnam agency.

As part of his service activities, Balu and his friends observed the deep troubles of tribals of Madala, Domalajoru and Rakthakandi hamlets of Araku Valley mandal in the district. Explaining about their troubles and how they are walking for about 6km for drinking water, Balu posted the images on the Facebook. He also explained that with a small budget, water could be provided to the tribals.

While reading the same in facebook, members of TANA, US Ram Chowdhary, Mallik Polineni, and Srinivas contacted Balu and agreed to provide financial assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh and transferred the amount to RDSS account.

Balu approached the tribals of villages and asked them to contribute labour work to the project. With the help of some other friends, Balu bought the pipelines and other required material and constructed small tanks to pool the water and provided potable water through taps to villages. Even the officials also appreciated Balu’s efforts and the tribals thanked Balu for providing the water facility.
