`40 cr to irrigate horticulture crops in Kadapa: Somireddy

Kadapa: In view of transforming Kadapa district as horticulture hub, agriculture minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said the government has sanctioned Rs 40 crore for irrigating 22 varieties of horticulture crops in 1.22 hectares this year.

Addressing the gathering after hoisting national flag on the occasion of 72nd Independence Day here on Wednesday, he said as part of this initiative, already 1,610 farmers were growing horticulture crops in 1,820 hectares against 388 hectares proposed to irrigate the crops in current year. Despite scanty rainfall reported in kharif season, farmers did not worry as water is sufficiently available in all reservoirs, he said.
