Guntur: Guntur rural district police prevented a YSRCP fact-finding committee on illegal quarries from proceeding to inspect quarries in Piduguralla and Dachepalli.

YSRCP MLAs Gopireddi Srinivas Reddy, Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy and Mustafa and party leaders Kasu Mahesh Reddy, former MLA Janga Krishna Murthy were placed under house arrest on Monday morning. Party senior leader Botcha Satynarayana was placed in house arrest in Cherbolu while he was proceeding to Gurazalain the morning.

Police had taken complete control of Gurazala constituency and began to carry out detention of the party workers as well as YSRCP supporters who came on to the streets. Both towns of Piduguralla and Dachepalli were under Section 144.

Addressing media in Gurazala, YSRCP leader in the state Legislative Council Ummareddy Venkateswaralu found fault with the government for preventing the party leaders who were going to visit the mines to enquire about illegal mining in the Gurazala Assembly constituency.

Condemning the house of arrest party leaders, he alleged that the government was trying to shield MLA Yarapathineni Srinivas though the High Court at Hyderabad expressed its ire at him.

Guntur rural SP Ch Venkata Appala Naidu told The Hans India, “The mining issue in the High Court in Hyderabad. Following the instructions of the High Court, a fact finding committee led by experts will visit the quarries soon.

We have no objection to give permission to the YSRCP leaders to go near mines. But the timing is not correct. It will lead to law and order problem. Taking situation into consideration, we have placed some of the YSRCP leaders under house arrest as a precautionary measure. We imposed Section 144 in Gurazala Assembly constituency and deployed additional forces.”
