Nellore: Mayor Abdul Aziz said the Nellore Municipal Corporation is getting ready to provide ozonised drinking water to the citizens. He along with Nellore Municipal Commissioner Sk Alim Basha has visited the Summer Storage (SS) Tank at Kothur area here on Friday.

He inspected quality of water in the tank and said that they would invite tenders for the technology and would implement it within three months. He also said that Corporation has responsibility to provide quality drinking water to the denizens.

“Water in the tank is frequently changing due to different climatic conditions and authorities were facing troubles to implement separate plans for purification of water. We had decided to ozonise water in the SS Tank,” he added.

International-level technology is not being implemented by any Municipal Corporation across the country and Nellore Municipal Corporation is the first one planning to introduce the technology in the SS Tank, he stated.

Water would be purified with the technology which is better than chlorination process,’ the Mayor said. He also explained that they have been conducting tests to remove bacteria and other waste from the water in a scientific manner.

Further, Mayor visited the Government General Hospital attached to the Medical College and consoled the tribal girl, who was allegedly raped in the tribal welfare hostel. He enquired about her health condition and interacted with her parents.

He also visited Tribal Welfare Hostel located near Podalakur road in the city. Mayor interacted with the Principal, staff members and students on the incident.

He demanded to speed up the investigation process and also to take stern action against the accused. Corporators Wahida, Raja Naidu and others were present.
