Vijayawada: A three-day workshop on ‘Child Sexual Abuse’ being organised under the aegis of Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM) on its premises concluded on Friday. Mahila Mithra coordinators under the Vijayawada city police station limits and officers of 20 police stations participated in the workshop.
Insia Dariwala, a social activist from Mumbai, participated in the workshop. On July 25 and 26, the Mahila Mithra coordinators were briefed on child sexual abuse and how to tackle the cases and on Friday, the police participated in the awareness programme.
In the interactive sessions, Insia enquired about the reasons behind the crimes, who is initiating the crimes, how many cases were being registered and if not registered what was the reason behind it.
Later, she explained about the various laws and punishments for criminals. She also explained various welfare schemes the government was providing to the victims.
The representatives participated in the programme said that most offences were committed on girls and offences on boys were on the rise with about 53 per cent and most offences on boys were not being registered due to lack of awareness. More than 90 Mahila Mithra coordinators and 45 police officers participated in the awareness programme. VMM programme officer Dr Keerthi and ACP VV Naidu were present.
