Vijayawada: Reservoirs in Krishna and Penna basins are getting adequate inflows of flood waters due to heavy rains in the catchment areas. Krishna basin plays vital role in the state with nearly 10 reservoirs with storage facilities.

By Sunday evening, Srisailam reservoir got inflows of over two lakh cusecs of water. The full reservoir level of Srisailam (FRL) is 885 feet and currently the water level stood at 840 feet. The reservoir so far received 61 tmc feet of water against the gross capacity of 215 tmc feet of water.

According to irrigation department sources, the inflow into Srisailam will continue for some more days. The officials are closely monitoring the water inflows in the reservoir.

Similarly, Pulichintala reservoir built on Krishna river had received112 tmc feet water against full reservoir level (FRL) of 175 tmc feet. Pulichintala project is located downstream of Nagarjuna Sagar and will be very useful for Krishna delta region.

So far, only 2.25 tmc feet of water reached Pulichintala against the gross capacity of 45.77 tmc feet of water. Nagarjuna Sagar is getting inflows from the catchment areas. By Sunday evening, the water level reached to 511 feet against the FRL of 590 feet.

Over 133 tmc feet of flood water reached Nagarjunasagar dam against the gross capacity of 312 tmc feet of water. Sagar dam will get inflows from Srisailam reservoir. It is expected the irrigation department may release water from Srisailam dam to Sagar in one or two days. So far, only 78 cusecs of water were released from Srisailam dam.

Narayanapur dam reservoir had reached its full capacity. By Sunday evening, 1,611 tmc feet of water reached the reservoir against the FRL of 1,615. The officials had released nearly 1.70 lakh cusecs of water. Water levels in Almatti dam in Karnataka reached 1,701 feet against the FRL of 1,705. The officials so far released 1.63 lakh cusecs of water on Sunday evening.

Similarly, water levels are increasing in Penna basin area. Water levels reached to 276 feet against FRL of 330 feet by Sunday. Kandaleru is also getting inflows for the past few days. Flood water levels reached to nearly 200 feet against FRL of 278 feet.
