Eluru: MLA Badeti Bujji on Friday announced that 15,000 houses would be constructed in Eluru Assembly constituency with an expenditure of Rs 1,500 crore by December.
Braving rain he toured the constituency and met people to know their problems. Many women wanted the MLA to sanction a house.
Responding to their pleas, the MLA informed that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had sanctioned Rs 750 crore for construction of houses.
He would release another sum of Rs 750 crore for the construction of 6,000 houses. He attributed delay in construction of houses to the ambition of the government to provide house to every family at a cost of Rs 2.5 lakh.
Stating that earlier there was a room for corruption and one family used to get 10 houses, the MLA informed that after linking the benefits to Aadhaar card, only eligible have been getting house constructed for them, he explained.
Co-option member Pedababu, corporators Indira, Balaji, Tatarao, Manoj and others were present.
