Pithapuram: In spite of relief from the Sunday’s incessant rain, several low-lying colonies in the town and at least 300 acres of agriculture land adjacent to the by-pass road were under a sheet of water.

On Monday, the sky was by and large overcast and slight drizzle experienced in the town. Heavy rains lashed the town under the influence of the low-pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal.

On account of road-widening work, canals have been closed forcing the flood water to enter homes at many places in the town. Residents had a tough time sending water out of their homes.

The Lions Kalyana Mantap in the sixth division, Jaggaiah Cheruvu Colony, Yanadula Colony, Vidyut Nagar and other areas became water-logged.

People faced difficulties as roads have been flooded. Farmers were worried over the seedlings raised in beds were washed away and seeds planted to raise the seedlings were washed away.

District Joint Collector directed contractors and other relief workers to dig canals to ease water entering homes but no concrete action has taken place irking the official.
