Vijayawada: The City police taken one more step for the protection of women by inaugurating Mahila Rakshana Kendram near Mahila Police Station. The Mahila Rakshana Kendram will be useful to women, who seek police help to resolve their problems.
Women police staff will be posted to help the women visiting the kendram. Mahila Police Station is already functioning at the place. But, Mahila Rakshana Kendram will play a broader role in dealing with women’s problems by conducting awareness meeting and counselling to the women victims.
Commissioner of Police Gautam Sawang on Wednesday inaugurated the Mahila Rakshana Kendram in the presence of city police, Mahila Mitras and representatives of the NGOs.
Gautam Sawang had introduced Mahila Mitras two years ago and appointed Mitras and coordinators in all the police stations of the city to help the women. After a gap of two years, now the Commissioner of Police inaugurated the Mahila Rakshana Kendram to strengthen the Mahila Mitras.
Speaking on the occasion, Sawang said efforts were on to appoint the staff round-the-clock at the Mahila Rakshana Kendram. He said women and girls can visit the Mahila Rakshana Kendram at any time and seek help of the police to get justice.
He said Mahila Rakshana Kendram will become a good centre for discussions on women’s problems, conducting counselling to the victims of violence, taking guidance from the police, lawyers, NGOs and other government departments.
Sawang said the Mahila Rakshana Kendram will be linked to Mahila helpline 181, Dial 100 and helpline 1091. He said the state government is giving top priority for empowerment and protection of women in the state.
Joint Commissioner of Police Kanti Rana Tata, DCP (Law and order) Gajarao Bhupal, DCP (Admin) J Brahma Reddy, DCP (crime) Shireen Begum and other officials, Mahila Mitras, Dr Keerthi of Vasavya Mahila Mandal and students of Siddhartha Mahila college attended the inauguration of Mahila Rakshana Kendram.
