​Kakinada: With the rising aspirations of local people, the semi-urban towns are looking for avenues for increased development in terms of businesses and industries for creating more job opportunities for the unemployed youth.
East Godavari is one such district where a variety of resources are identified for development of small and medium industries.
Though the district essentially has its roots in a strong agrarian economy, it has made envious progress to become an important commercial hub of Andhra Pradesh.
District Industries Centre (DIC) general manager David Sundar Kumar said the State government signed MoUs to set up 19 units at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Partnership Summit at Visakhapatnam in January.
District Industries Centre (DIC) General Manager David Sundar Kumar made representations to the government seeking creation of necessary infrastructure for boosting industrial growth.
Speaking to The Hans India, David Sundar Kumar said the unemployed youth would benefit enormously by these projects and the only thing was that they need to be trained. He said the government launched Skill Development Centres to train the youth.
It may be mentioned here that over 47 industries set up at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore, have been providing employment to 20,000 youth. As many as 19 units would be set up at cost of Rs 5,325 crore in the near future.
With the State government showering sops on entrepreneurs for developing industrial units, the entrepreneurs were setting up industries in rural areas as well.
Some of the major industrial units like Nagarjuna, Coromandel, Spectrum Power Generation Limited (SPGL), GMR, GVK etc., have put the district on growth path.
Industrial units like Nava Bharat Ventures Ltd at Samalkota, Sri Sarvaraya Sugars Ltd at Chelluru, RAK Ceramics at Peddapuram, sea ports, ONGC, GAIL, Reliance and Oil India Limited (OIL) have boosted economy of the district.
