Nellore: Puttamarju Kandriga in Nellore district is not a well-known village. There are not even landline connections, leave alone mobile phones. The village has 110 houses and a population of just 600.
People of the village have not seen CC roads and drainage system till now. They are much familiar with power cuts.
Now, the village has shot into fame suddenly. Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar has decided to adopt the village in response to the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Members of Parliament.
The former cricketer has allotted Rs 3.60 crore out of his “Members of Parliament for Local Area Development Funds” for developmental activities in this village. The village is of late witnessing a heightened activity in the wake of Modi’s Swachh Bharat call.
The officials are considering a proposal to merge the neighbouring village Gollapalli with Kandriga. Plans are on to develop the village on all fronts with such amenities as 24-hour water supply, street lighting, internal roads, sewerage system, garbage treatment plant, primary health centre, veterinary hospital, wi-fi connectivity and public toilets etc.
Funds for the activities have been released by Mumbai Suburban Collectorate. If everything goes according to plan, Sachin is likely to visit the village on November 16.
