Hyderabad: As part of its social responsibility, the North American Telugu Association (NATA) will be organising a walk for the girl child at KBR Park in the city on December 29. The walk is being organised as part of the 14-day ‘Seva Days’ programme launched by the association in the State a fortnight ago.

Addressing the press here, NATA president T Sanjeeva Reddy said that the walk is being organised to create awareness on gender equality and growing incidence of female foeticides in the country and State. Besides taking up safe drinking water projects in government schools in drought-hit villages and eye camps for poor school children, NATA has taken a serious note of dwindling girl child numbers, he said.

He further informed that the Association has taken up a slew of welfare programmes at the cost of Rs 2 crore, including disbursement of scholarships to poor students. The Association would also present life-time achievement award to noted ophthalmologist Dr Kasu Prasad Reddy and NATA Excellency Awards to Telugu film director Sekhar Kammula and Congress MLC from Nellore V Narayana Reddy at the valedictory ceremony of the programme on Sunday. To strengthen business ties, a joint meeting by NATA and Telugu Entrepreneurs Association would also organised on the same day in the city.

He also informed that Association was preparing to conduct its second convention from July 4 to 6 at Atlanta in America.
