Vijayawada: District Rural Development Agencies (DRDA) Programme Director D Chardrashekar Raju said that there were 60,000 Self-Help Groups (SHG) with about 6.1 lakh women members in Kirshna district. And more than 4.5 lakh SHG women members were earning more than Rs 10,000 per month.

He was the chief guest for inaugural of Free Handmade Jewellery Training Programme organised by Meenakshi Arts and Crafts Welfare Society with the financial help of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) at Gollapudi village on Wednesday. The training will be held till March 6.

Addressing the gathering, Chandrashekar said that each member of SHG would be given about Rs 50,000 to establish their own live stock, petty business like provision shops, Tiffin shop, sweet shops etc. The training would be given to the members to make small products mostly handmade like leaf plates, handmade jewellery, stretching, pickle making etc.

With the loans provided to them they would invest and make products. The main aim to provide loan and training to each SHG member was to help them earn at least Rs 10,000 per month. He further said that avenues were made for the SHG members to sell their products through Dwcra Bazaar organised at various places in the state. Meenakshi Arts and Crafts Welfare Society chairman K Meenakshi said under Micro Entrepreneur Development Programme (MEDP) 30 SHG women members would be given free training on handmade jewellery for 21 days. SHG members and others were present.
